Technical Parameters

Derived from bee venom, melittin is a peptide known for its immune-related properties. It has been found to stimulate PLA2 and increase the activity of high-molecular-weight enzymes. Moreover, melittin has been shown to exhibit natural antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory characteristics. Recent studies suggest that melittin also has multiple anticancer effects, inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis in various cancer cell lines, including lung, cervical, liver, ovarian, prostate, breast, and gastric. Being an amphipathic hemolytic peptide, melittin exerts its potential anticancer effects by directly necrosing cells. Melittin also inhibits EGF-induced cell invasion by blocking the PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway - a mechanism that's more specific to breast cancer cells.
