Antioxidant TBHQ

Application methods:

  • Direct Method

To stabilize a fat or oil, it is recommended to heat it to a minimum of 60-70°C and stir it thoroughly for approximately 10-15 minutes until the antioxidant has dissolved completely. The stirring should not be too forceful so as to prevent the entrapment of excessive air. It is important to continue stirring the mixture for an additional 20 minutes to guarantee an even distribution of the antioxidant.

 

 

  • Concentrate method

To prepare concentrated solutions of antioxidant, it is recommended to dissolve TBHQ in a small amount of fat or oil, or alternatively, 95% ethanol can be used to make a 5-10% TBHQ solution. Once the solution has been prepared, it should be directly introduced into the oil and fat, while ensuring adequate agitation for uniform distribution. This method can be quite effective for achieving a high concentration of antioxidant in the final product.

 

 

  • Pump-mixing method

In order to mix TBHQ into the oil, a concentrated TBHQ solution made from concentrate method is introduced through the inlet to the circulating pump. To control the concentration of TBHQ in the oil, a stainless-steel proportioning pump is utilized to meter the concentration at a specified rate. Sufficient turbulence is required to ensure thorough mixing of TBHQ in the oil before it is stored in the tank. This ensures that the oil is of high quality and properly preserved.

 

 

  • Spray method

To preserve food products such as nuts, preserved meat products, and fish products, one can use a dilute TBHQ solution. It can be sprayed directly onto the food product, with the concentration of the TBHQ solution varying depending on the type of food. For optimal results, it is suggested to use a 0.02% TBHQ ethanol solution, ensuring that the antioxidant is spread uniformly.

 

 

  • Mixing method

Notes:

To ensure the maximum antioxidant effectiveness of TBHQ, it is crucial to fully dissolve it in oil.

 

 

The addition of TBHQ is limited to a maximum of 0.02% or 200 parts per million (ppm) based on the weight of the food.

 

 

The antioxidant activity of TBHQ can be improved with the addition of citric acid.

 

 

Mixing TBHQ with Propyl Gallate (PG) is strictly prohibited. It is important to note that these two substances should never be used together.

 

 

It is recommended to refrain from using this item in alkaline conditions.
